Name Master of Science - Electrical Engineering
Place of study 19|NO|1|Narvik|Narvik
Number of terms 4
Starting term Autumn
Target group

The master programme in electrical engineering is suitable for students with the interest of electrical power systems and electrical energy sources, power electronics and electrical motor drives, and electrical engineering is a fast growing field with a lot of career opportunities.

Professional opportunities

After completing the study program there are many and good job opportunities. Often you will be able to enter an executive position at an early stage. There is a lot of career opportunities: development, construction, research and project management in electronics, automation, telecommunications, environmental monitoring, computer engineering, electrical supply and instrumentation, among others.

A Master in electrical engineering provides an excellent basis for lifelong learning and a lifelong career in a high-tech world. Relevant industries include: Energy, petroleum, mechanical and electrical  Industry, and automation is needed in all areas.

Many of the electrical engineers at well known companies in Norway are educated at Narvik University College. EExperience shows that electrical engineers are attracitve in the market and tend to find interesting jobs. As a master graduate in electrical engineering, you are helping to change the future!

What do you learn

Electrical Engineering deais about applied electrical technology. It is a complex and dynamic discipline ranging from microelectronics through electromagnetism to high-power technology, from development of tomorrow's information technology to automation and instrumentation of complex industrial processes. Electronic engineers have for decades revolutionized our ordinary day. The concept "high tech" is largely based on innovations in the fieldelectrical engineering. Within the range of this discipline, you have the opportunity to learn to master a diverse range of skills.

- Renewable energy
- Stability and reliability in power systems
- Operation, control and economics in power systems
- Power electronics and electric motor drives
- Control theory

The Master program will provide you a solid understanding of areas such as computer engineering, signal processing, control engineering, power electronics, microprocessor technology and programming, mechatronics and electric motor drives and electromagnetism. You will also work in practical, industry-related project, which provides additional opportunity for academic study. Both the projects and the final thesis is usually performed in cooperation with companies. This gives you the unique opportunity to get in contact with a possible future employer.

Further education

The program qualifies students to take a PhD, and Narvik University College can offer such an education in collaboration with other universities in Norway and Sweden.

PhD students do their research work in the research group Electromechanical Systems.

Key topics

Some key topics of study include: automation, digital signal processing, instrumentation and measurement systems, thermodynamics, data communications, real-time systems, power electronics, electric motor drives. The program emphasizes the use of modern microprocessors and information technology as a tool in most disciplines.

One of the most modern laboratories for signal processing within the electro-mechanical systems is available here. The use of this laboratory in connection with minor projects and the final diploma thesis is very popular among our students. The program has an international touch, and there are good opportunities for studying abroad, especially in relation to the final thesis.
